Garbage day is a day away and the recycle bin is already overflowing. Not sure if that's a good thing or not. Should I be re-using more?

For some reason, I cannot stop buying bags of cheetoes. I think its pregnancy related. My pregnancy is not eco-friendly.

I'm trying, I really am

I'm trying to do the whole "low global footprint" thing. I am. I try to grow my own veggies in the summer, that didn't work out so well this year. I don't drive if I can walk, but at 6 months pregnant, it's a little hard to walk to the bathroom, let alone the store. I buy re-used when ever I can.

But it's a lot harder than I think it should be. When did we become such a disposable society? Seriously, even 50 years ago this would be completely unacceptable.

And being healthy and green is expensive!! It is seriously less expensive to buy food that has a shelf life of dozens of years than it is to buy a bag of apples. And then the bag is non-recyclable!!!!! I looked into joining a 'produce co-op'... $500 a year. I don't know about you, but I can't afford that.

So I've got a list of projects I want to accomplish this fall and winter. I know I won't be able to accomplish ALL of the things on the list, but I'd like to get at least a couple done.

1. Get the baby's room ready. Sounds simple I know, but trust me, it's not.
2. Get my daughters new room ready. See above.
3. Wrap my water heater and pipes. That's got to save a little money, right? And even if it doesn't save me, I'll have more hot water. TOTALLY WORTH IT.
4. Caulk my windows. I need new windows all around, but that's going to have to wait till after tax returns.
5. Build a cold frame to grow some winter veggies. Admittedly, there's a limited number of veg you can grow this way, but I can at least get lettuce and carrots.

Here's hoping!
